Civil Sector

The Civil Sector is extremely large, but one that CCL can specifically tackle with its experience from the early years within commercial construction. It is an area that CCL has excelled in with its comprehensive design service, which complements its highly respected installation service.

Now considered one of the industry leaders in below ground waterproofing and ground gas in the civil sector, CCL has experienced teams permanently installing projects from one-off culverts through to new bridge membranes.

Our focus for civils works includes, but not limited to:

• Waterproofing to sections of roads, culverts and other retained structures that can be built into the landscape along the UK’s road networks
• Podium, Bridge deck and elevated Highway schemes
• Internal and external coatings to airports (including airside)
• Lining solutions for sewage structures and holding pits
• Tunnelling projects
• Substation waterproofing

When specified with the correct waterproofing systems, all types of installations are possible in civil engineering; however, the design needs careful consideration and a CSSW qualified, or suitably experienced Waterproofing Design Specialist, should always be consulted.

CCL’s teamwork across the board can offer a vast range of solutions for civil projects, all the while ensuring it complies with relevant standards.

CCL’s very early work in the industry included extensive works for the Water Board and involved the spray application of liquid-applied waterproofing coatings to the inside of the structures; this was to provide increased waterproof protection to the concrete structure. This is where CCL gained its expertise in the use of specialist airless spray pump technologies and pathed the way for the company to be what it is today.

CCL have also succesfully supplied and installed waterproofing to many other civil engineering projects including, the new ticket hall in London’s Green Park underground train station, with an external ‘type A’ pre-applied waterproofing membrane. This was utilised to completely wrap the below ground structure prior to others forming the reinforced concrete basement slab and concrete retaining walls. Also, similarly, with an internal cavity drain ‘type C’ membrane to a large engineering hub at Edgware Road Station.

With the risk of floods seemingly becoming more prevalent, CCL is increasingly involved in flood remediation schemes and suitable urban drainage schemes (SUDS). CCL is commonly involved with the design, supply and installation of waterproofing and gas barrier protection systems to attenuation tanks. It has also worked on various schemes throughout the UK, all aiding the management of surface water runoff and to slow down its release back into the ground and rivers.
